i was trying tto find where Carrigarry is in Castleconnor Parish, I haven't been able to find it even on a map. My ancestors were from this town. My gggrandfather was Thomas McDermott who was born about 1805, he had a brother named John. His wife's name was Catherine but i am not exactly sure what her maiden name was but she was very close to Tom's age. They had several children who eventually settled in Upstate NY. Their children were: 

Henry born around 1835

Patrick who was born about 1839

Catherine born about 1841 or 1842

all orn in Ireland in Carrigarry. There may have been several older children named

Anne  and Owen who were about 5 to 7 years okder than Henry and had married in Ireland.

There also could have been an older sister named Mary

I sent for all the children's death certificates in the US but have come up empty handed as far as Tom's wife's maiden name. One of the US census listed Tom's wife Catherine as her second marriage, They came to the US avout 1849 to 1850

Any information would br helpful

  • I did find a few births in Sligo listed in Carrigarry but after further research I found it formerly written as Carrowgarry and this website shows the exact location...north of Ballina: http://www.logainm.ie/en/44780

    Looks like they are originally from Cork but moved to Sligo..

  • I saw that actually I was contacted by family member because our DNA  matched up. plus our  families have familiar features, They spelll the town different,

  • Hi,
    We must be related. My 2nd gr grandmother Catherine McDermott (b. abt 1843)was born in Carrowgarry, County Sligo. Her parents were John McDermott and Ann Moyles/Myles (m. 1835 in Kilglass Parish). Catherine married John Molloy in 1865 in Castleconnor Parish. Their first born son John Molloy is my gr grandfather. He immigrated to Portland, Maine in 1888.
