James Brennan was born about 1810 in Sligo.  He married (in Ireland) Mary ? who was born in Ireland about 1811.  They immigrated to the USA between May 1835 and Jun of 1836.  Their oldest child, Ann (my great grandmother) was born in New York after their arrival.  They had other children:  Thomas, Michael, Mary J. and John who were born in La Salle County, Illinois.  James was a farmer.

James had a brother,  Bernard  Brennan (1816- 31 Aug1897)  who also immigrated to the US through Canada  and  lived in La Salle County, Illinois.  Bernard married Mary Flannigan (1818-1897)  also from Ireland.  Their children were:  Bernard J. 1842 – 1910;  Mary A. 1845;  Thomas Henry  1847 – 1912;  Catherine  F. 1849 – 1931;  Elizabeth 1851 – 1942;  Bridget J. 1853 – ; John 1853-; William J 1855 – 1909; Annetta 1857 -.  All of the children were born in La Salle County,  Illinois.

My great grandmother, Ann Brennan, married Martin Corrigan  in La Salle County,  Illinois.  Martin was born in Ireland and immigrated to the US about 1846.  I am searching for any information on Martin Corrigan but I do not know the county from which he came .  Martin was a farmer.

I am looking for information about James and Mary ? Brennan;  Bernard and Mary (Flannigan) Brennan, and Martin Corrigan.

  • Hi

Do you know much about their emigration? The dates, the reason why they left, who they may have travelled with?..etc..Generally more information was given at the port of arrival rather than the port of departure. If you knew which city they arrived at (e.g. Liverpool, New York, etc.), this could be a good place to find more information. -And perhaps even find out an exact place of origin.

  • Hello,

I am quite intrigued as Martin Corrigan and Ann Brennan are my 3rd great grandparents. Could you please share how you know that the Brennans are from Sligo? And how did you know that James had a brother Bernard also in La Salle? Do you know if James came to Illinois via Canada, too?

Thanks for sharing. I have also been trying to locate Martin Corrigan's origins.
