I am seeking information about the family of  Jamea BEREYNE(aka BERRY) who was born in Sligo in 1835. His parents were Michael BEREYNE & Catherine GILLROY.

In August 1855 James married Alice MCCREE in Bury, England., his name being registered as BERRY & his occupation "stripper & grinder".

They migrated to Australia, aboard the "Conway", arriving in Sydney 30 Dec 1856.

James & Alice's  first child, Catherine, was born aboard ship and they had 10 more in Sydney.

They  lived around the Willoughby area on Sydney's north shore.

    Hi Margaret,

    I believe that's Berry. I can find his marriage record in England and a possible baptismal in Sligo. If not we can use the marriage record and details on immigration records to try to discover the family homestead in Sligo. If you want I can complete a research Assessment for you (free of charge) which will give you a good idea of how successful further research migth be or retrieve any records/documents that might be available.

    You will find an Assessment Form on my site at;

    by the way - do you know if James was ever in Jail in Sligo?

    regards

    Peter
