Hi,
Thank you for your message.
You do not mention any dates in your message so it is difficult to know what records may be relevant to you. Also, it is difficult to find information on someone without knowing the parish of origin as most Irish record sources are based on specific locations usually parishes.
Have you already tried looking on www.familsearch.org to see if you can find any church records relatring to the O? Flynns or Lavins?
www.rootsireland.ie also have Irish church records available, you have to pay to use this site though.
Civil registration began in Ireland in 1864, so if you can find any birth, death or marriage records relating to the family after this date it will give you a parish name. Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office in Dublin. Here is their website:

You can search the indexes to these records online at:

I did a search for O'Flynn in Griffith? Valuation. This is a property valuation survey that was carried out in Ireland 1848-1864. It doesn?t offer any genealogical information but can sometimes be used to tie a person to a specific place. Two results came back for a James and Bernard in St. John?s parish. Could these be related to Michael?
If you have no other leads you could try looking into this parish.
Some other websites that you may find useful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
Genealogy links: http://www.genealogylinks.net/uk/ireland/sligo/index.html
Genealogy Toolkit: http://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/index.html
You could also try contacting Co. SLigo Genealogy and Heritage Centre for assistance however a fee may apply. Here is their email: heritagesligo@eircom.net
I hope that this is helpful and that you are able to narrow down a parish. Once you have this more avenues of research may open up to you. Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Kind regards,
