I am trying to find any info on Frederick Lunney born Aug.6, 1822. I believe he lived in or near Carney. He emigrated to America or Canada.

Hi Sandra,
Thank you for your message.
Carney is a town in the civil parish of Drumcliffe, Co. Sligo:
Do you know what religion Frederick was? If you do you may be able to find information in church records.Unfortunately, Catholic records for the parish do not begin until 1841:
Church of Ireland records generally tend to have earlier start dates however, so if he followed this church you may be able to find something on him. Most surviving Church of Ireland records are still held by the local clergy, although some are in the National Archives of Ireland and others are in the Representative Church Body Library in Dublin. Here are their websites: http://www.nationalarchives.ie/ and http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42
Lists of these surviving registers can also be found at the National Library of Ireland.
You could also check for record of the family in the land records pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century. There are two:
The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
and Griffith?s Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
Civil registration began in Ireland in 1864 so any births, deaths or marriages in the family after this date would be recorded in these records. Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office in Dublin. Here is their website:
http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm
You can search the indexes to these records online at:
https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1408347
Have you tried looking into his emigration? Generally more information was given at the port of arrival rather than the port of departure so this could be a good place to find more information.
For immigration information in the US check: http://www.archives.gov/research/immigration/
For Canada: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/index-e.html
Another helpful website is: http://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/Irish-emigration.html
You could also try checking the 1901/1911 census records to see if there were any Lunney?s recorded in the area at the time: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/
Some other websites that you may find useful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/

Hi Sandra, I just came across this websie and your posting while doing my geneology. Tracing my fathers mother who was Mary Agnes Lunney 1899-1990 to her grandfather led me to Fredrick Lunney born 1822. married Mary Anne Peere. I wonder if this could be the same man? I have no information on many of the Lunney names and would love to be able to collaborate some infromation. Please email at alexlivingstone13@gmail.com or post here when you can. I look forward to learning more. Thanks
