This is my 3G-grandfather.
I'm seeking to confirm that i have the right person leaving Ireland and any additional info, such as parents, place of birth, date of birth, siblings, etc.
Born anywhere between 1805-1810, w/ best guess 1807-08.
Born in Ireland, possibly Co.Sligo.
Lived most of his life in Monmouth County, New Jersey, USA.
I have some immigration and naturalization info on a Martin Wymbs. What i cannot be 100% sure of is whether these are on "my" Martin.
Emigration from Ireland
On 20 Jun 1825 three individuals w/ surname WHIMS left Ireland
on the ship Virginia bound for New York. They were
1. Martin, age 17
2. Pat., age 17
3. Michael, age 12
Naturalization in USA
An archivist helped me find a record for Martin D. ULYMBS
naturalized 3 Nov 1838 in Common Pleas Court, New York County.
It's easy to see how a "W" could become a "UL" with a transcription
mistake.
In the US i can follow him in the 1850 through 1880 census records.
He died in 1883.

Have you tried to find the name in the 1901 and 1911 census? Given the uncommon name, I think you can quickly narrow down the likely area they were from.
1901:

1901/1911:

Also if you haven't seen this message board on Ancestry.com, I think you might be able to find some other researchers here. Even if posts are from years ago, post a response and you will likely hear back.

Hi, Cathy, thanks for the tip. Yes, i've been far and wide on the internet. More Wymbs than you'd think, and i thought my mother's family was the only one!. Lots of spelling variations too. The Wymbs spelling seems to show up more often in Co.Sligo than in other counties, thus my posting here.
The linkage of Martin with a Pat[rick?] and a Michael is fairly new for me, so i should rescour those boards w/ the new info in hand.
For anyone else researching this name, here's a surname site:
