We believe that my 3x gr grandparents may have owned a brewery in Sligo in the mid-1800s (likely the 1840s). Does anyone know how I can find out what breweries existed in Sligo at that time and who owned them? Would appreciate advice on this. Thank you!

Elwyn, this is very helpful. Thank you! The name Madden Martin & Co stands out because Martin is my 3x gr grandmother's maiden name. A Google search shows that the brewery may have closed in 1850 which would coincide with their immigration. Do you know of a way to find out who the owners were of this company? Or should I create a second thread to ask for guidance on that question?

Can’t think of any certain way of identifying the owners. You could search the National Archives catalogue in Dublin to see if they hold any records on the company. (The catalogue is on-line but if there are files, a personal visit may be required to view them).
