Mary and Jack Boland lived in Skreen when my mother and father (Lee and Dick Burt) visited in 1977. Are they still there? Are there other relatives there now? My parents met them in Skreen in 1977 and later corresponded with them for a number of years. I'm afraid my parents have both died now, and I am unable to find an address for the Bolands in Skreen. My brother, sister, and I are visiting Ireland in early June, and we would love to meet our Skreen relatives.
Our great grandmother was Ellen Boland who was born in Skreen in 1865 or 1866. She had two brothers named Richard and Patrick and perhaps some other brothers and sisters. Ellen and her brothers came to America in the early 1880s. Their parents were Patrick and Mary (Costello) Boland, both from Skreen. Patrick's father was John Boland, who was born in 1789 and died in 1874. He also lived in Skreen.
Ellen Boland married Michael Carr (also from Ireland) in 1883 in Lowell, Mass, USA. One of their children was John Joseph Carr, my grandfather, born in 1900.
I would love to hear from anyone who knows if there are Boland relatives still living in Skreen!! Please contact me at suestets@gmail.com. Thank you!!!

Dear Col,
Thank you so much!! I really appreciate your help!
Do you know what the first section of the address is? For James Boland it is "Leekfield" and for T Boland it is "Farnaharpy."
Thanks again,
Sue Stetson

My great grandparents were both born in Skreen. He in 1860 and she in 1864. They came to USA ,I think in 1880's , but cannot find out whether they were married in Skreen or USa, or which ship they came on. They did have a son in this US in 1887,but all census reports give conflicting dates of arrival. My father visited Skreen in about 1995 and did meet up with a cousin, Ned Kikgallon, that has since passed on. Any info about the family or how to find a possible marriage certificate would be appreciated. Thank yo, Meg

Hi Meg
I've done a few searches on www.rootsireland.ie/ for the marriage in Sligo but had no luck.
http://ifhf.rootsireland.ie/quis.php?page=1&confirmPageView=Y
There are 6 Kilgallon - Cawley marriages but none with the right first names.
I checked the birth records for James and there are 4 all in Skreen & Dromard RC parish but all spelt Kilcullen; 2 are 1860 & 2 1859
There are 2 Bridget Cawleys 1864 + - 1 year in Sligo but neither is from Skreen; 1 is from Geevah RC and the other Elmafad & Kilmorgan RC.
You might find it interesting to have a look at Griffiths Valuation & the Tithe Applotments if you haven't already
There are 3 Kilgallons in Griffiths Valuation 1848-64 (free oline) Sligo & 86 Cawleys
The Tithe Applotments 1823-37 free online have 29 Kilgallons in Sligo & 83 Cawleys
In the 1901 Irish Census (free) there are 32 Kilgallons and 424 Cawleys while there are 19 Kilgallons and 416 in 1911
The Irish phone book has 3 Kilogallons in Skreen (Residential) and 40 Cawleys
Might be worth writing to them in order to try to find this marriage.

thank you so much for your search! I have found on ancestry , from newly added records, baptismal records for both my great grandparents. The spellings are slightly varied from what they used in America, but I am sure they are them , since I do know their birth dates and parents names , from my father. James Kilgallen was born on Nov 20,1860 to Patrick Kilgallen and Bridget Kilmartin in Skreen. My great grandmother Bridget was born June 6,1864 to Patrick Cowley and Mary Kirrane, in Skreen also. My father had visited Skreen and met a 2nd cousin in 1994. Perhaps they were living in a different area at the time they were married, thank you for your kindness in searching and quick response.

Hello Susan
The address you refer to as known as 'townlands' here - i.e. Leekfield is a Townland in the Parish of Skreen. They are used here as part of the address as we do not have postcodes (yet)!
There are many Boland famililes in Skreen, more than the 2 listed in the online phone book.
I am from the area and can help you if you wish
Please let me know if you found your relations or want some assistance with further tracing
Best regards
Kathleen
