Need assistance in making connections.
I'm interested in finding the sibling/s and parents of Roger, Roddy, Roderick Cantwell and his wife Mary McDonnell/McDonald.
Roger was found on Griffith's Valuation (1848) in the Parish of Aghnameadle and Townland of Blakefield near Toomavera in Co. Tipperary. Roger is listed last ( 8 h) living near William McDonnell - perhaps a relative of Mary. Other McDonnell names listed in #8 with William and Roger: Michael and Thomas.
Michael is of interest. When using the Irish naming tradition, Mary's father would be Michael and mother Bridget. Roger's parents would be Thomas and Julia/Judith.
Finding Roger in Blakefield, Tipperary, Ireland, lead to FHL #926103 - Parochial Registers of Toomevara (Tipperary) 1830-1880.
Records found:
Roger Cantwell marries Mary McDonald on 19 May 1836 in a R. C. church in Toomevra.
Bridget Cantwell, Baptism/Birth: 20 Feb 1837, Sponsors: Michl McDonnell and Margret Cantwell - same R. C. church
Thomas Cantwell, Baptism/Birth: 14 Dec 1838, Sponsors: Paddy Cantwell and Mary Brislane - same R. C. church
Michael Cantwell, Baptism/Birth: 15 May 1841, Sponsors: Patt White and Judy McDonald - same R. C. church
Judith Cantwell, Baptism/Birth: 1 Nov 1843, Sponsors: Pat Shanahan and Peggy Whyte - same R. C. church
Mary Cantwell, Baptism/Birth: 13 May 1845, Sponsors: John Maher and Jane McDonald - same R. C. church
Patrick Cantwell, Baptism/Birth: 13 Nov 1848, Sponsors: Michl McDonnell and Catherine Slevin - same R. C. church
Roger (Rody) Cantwell arrived in New York from Great Britian aboard the Waterloo on 30 Oct 1850. He is listed as age 35 making his birth year about 1815. Roger arrives first with the family following later.
**Roger and Mary had two other children: Jennie Cecelia born in 30 Mar 1855/56 in Rochester, New York and William Hamilton born 25 May 1858 Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Roger and Mary settle in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Roger dies there on 28 Mar 1870. Mary moves to Shawano, Wisconsin to live with her youngest son William. Mary dies in Shawano on 27 Jun 1888 at the age of 74.
I feel the list of sponsors for the Cantwell children hold the answers I'm searching for - maybe sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles of Roger and Mary. Any help that you can provide to help me make the connections would be appreciated.
A trip to Co. Tipperary is planned for June 2025.
Thank you,
K. Cantwell

K. Cantwell:
I'm sure you know the Toomevara RC baptismal records start in March 1831 so you won't be able to find baptismal records for any of the Cantwells and McDonnells born before 1831.
I did locate an 1825 Tithe record which is of interest https://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/reels/tab//004587395/004587395_00340.pdf
There is a Michael McDonnell leasing two plots of 40 acres each in Bleakfield in Aghnameadle civil parish. The entry for Michael shows and Co. which means he had others with him leasing the property.
Although there is no hard evidence, I would agree with your assumption that this Michael is the father of Mary.

Roger - Thank You
I appreciate getting the Tithe record for Michael McDonnell.
My focus now is to research the four McDonnell names found on Griffiths Valuation in Blakefield (Micheal, Thomas, John and William) to link them to the circle of friends and relatives found on the FHL film 926103. By using marriage and baptism records, a maiden name, sponsor, witness or location might reveal a needed clue.
Thank you again for you help.
