To Whom it may concern,

I am looking for information on a one Michael Dwyer born in around 1827 (gravestone says March 17, 1827) in County Tipperary, Ireland. Additionally, he married Margaret Carey in 1853, but this was in Illinois and we don't know if they knew each other before emigrating to America. She was born around 1814 (gravestone says May 18, 1814) in County Tipperary, Ireland. We do know that Michael Dwyer emigrated through New Orleans.

The only other additional information we have is on his brother Timothy Dwyer whose gravestone says he was from Anacarty, County Tipperary, Ireland. He married a Hanora Ryan on January 17, 1832 in Carhue, Country Tipperary, Ireland.

Lastly, based on information from a one Father Beattie (he provided the marriage information of Timothy Dwyer) potential parents names are Conor O'Dwyer and Jude Carey.

I am trying to find any leads or information related to Michael Dwyer. Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks and look forward to hopefully learning more.

  • Hi Tim,

There is a record of the birth of Margaret Carey in 1815 in Tipperary on www.rootsireland.ie/

There is no record for Michael Dwyer in 1827 but there is 1 in 1827 and 1 in 1829 in Tipperary

I would go through the parishes to see if Michael and Margaret were from the same one but there are 77 of them to check one by one! You can purchase the record on roots which will give you the fathers' names and the parish.

I couldn't find Timothy with parents Conor and Jude or his marriage to Hanora.

The Tithe Applotments - free to search - (1823-37) have 695 Dwyers in Tipperary 17 Michaels and 21 Timothys.Anacarty and Carhue aren't there though.
