I am researching Mathew Gilbert (born approximately 1800) who married Elizabeth Mooney (born approximately 1802).  They married 14 May 1824 in Ardmayle, Tipperary.  They left Ireland in 1849 and settled in New York state, USA.

  • There is a Matthew Gilbert listed in the Tithe Applotments of 1827 in the townland of Castlelake Civil parish of Relickmurry and Athassel- Castlelake is about 5 miles west to the town of Cashel. What denomination were Mathew and Elizabeth? and did they have any children in Ireland? If R.C. it might be worthwhile looking at the parish records for Golden R.C parish  the  records start in 1833. Amarriage usually tookplace in the parish of the bride so it is possible that elizabeth Mooney was from Ardmayle parish but that the family lived in Castlelake after marriage.
