Looking for information on Patrick Savage, who changed his name to Sage.  He married Bridget Carey, according to family lore, and had several children born in Ireland: Redmond, Thomas, James, and possibly a Michael and Patrick, along with a female child who may have died in Ireland.  They lived near the ford in the river, Ballinahinch, somewhere near Nenagh.  There is a graveyard in Templekelly with graves of a Redmond Savage and Robert Savage, early 1800's.  Patrick's birth year is around 1779.  I believe they had relatives who owned land in Glenacre, Ballinahinch, and Ballymalonebeg, Gortlassabrien, Ballycorrigan.

They immigrated to Dereham, Oxford, Canada sometime around 1832.

Any more information would be greatly appreciated.

  • Susan:

RC church records are not available for the early 1800s in that area. I did locate an 1826 Tihe Applotment listing for a Patrick Savage in Ballycorrigan townland in Templechally civil parish. Possibly this is your relative.

  • Roger McDonnell, that would be them!  I have been in contact with relatives of his brother, who still live on the family land in Glenacre.  There were 3 brothers, they think, one in Ballycorrigan, one in Glenacre, and one in Ballinahinch, near Nenagh (Patrick).  They changed their name to Sage for some reason, and Patrick immigrated to Canada.

Thank you for the link!  Someday, I am going there to meet in person those relatives, and visit the area.  Thank you again!

  • Jerry Ahern, this is the family.  I have been in contact with relatives of his brother.  They tried to send me a picture of the gravestones, but they were blurry and I could not see anything.  I know the inscription is very old and can hardly be read, but would love to try to get a better picture, or rubbing.  Their name was Savage, and they changed it to Sage for some reason.  The relatives think it may be brothers to Patrick, possible, and that they possibly were killed in the fighting in Carrickfergus.  Thank you!
