Hi.  I'm writing up the family history of our Navin/Nevin line from Farranrory, near Ballingarry.  I want to comment on any clearances that occurred in the area in the 1800s.  Can anyone direct me to details of those clearances if any?

Thanks in anticipation

  • Thanks for your reply Margot.  Yes Denis and John Neven came to Australia on the "JOhn Masterman" in 1861.  I had not seen the reference to the ship "Nile" .  I assume they swapped to the "John Materman".

You mentioned the Tipperary studies website.  Thank you.

Do you know of any specific reporting on the clearances in the Farranrory Townland at Ballingarry Margot?

    Cheers Richard

  • Sorry no, Tipperary Studies should be a help finding information Balingarry.

In those days ships were like Buses. Drop off and pick up as they travelled. Some records state leaving from London, Scotland etc.
Yes that's true, but in between the crew changed even a Captain changed and as you say changed ships.
There was one search I did, the people said they arrived on the Flora. When I checked the route it was the Flora MacDonald.
    I supposed they saved ink!

"To come out under care of Winifred DOGHERTY."    do you know who she was?
