John KENNEDY b. 1813, d. 1897 in Ballyhane, Kilnaneave, Co. Tipp., a farmer.

He was witness in the will of James KENNEDY b. abt 1815, d. 1858 in Woodstown, Annestown, Co. Waterford.

The witness John K. was due to this will the first cousin of the deceased James K. who was my ggggrandfather.

Beside his connection to Ballyhane we know nothing about Thomas KENNEDY, the father of my James K. - The reason is most likely because he made a mixed marriage with Rebecca Gamble.

The above John K.'s son Edmond b. 1864 married 1896 Anne KENNEDY from Ballynahow, Co. Tipp. (marriage cert.). Anne's father was Michael KENNEDY, farmer. The witnesses at this marriage were a John KENNEDY (the groom's father?) and a Hannah Kelly.

My question:

Has somebody a connection with this family of Michael KENNEDY from Ballynahow, possibly Ballycahill Parish, Co. Tipp.?

My hope is to find somebody who has family trees incl. in-laws or other sources going further back than the civil records do.

Alot of resrarch has been done in the Barony of Upper Ormond on Kennedy,s. They have

a gathering every year in Rearcross.    Headstone ins. for Toomevara on Tipperary Studies Digitisation Project.

Re  The Kennedy,s in  Ballinshow Ballycahill, in the parish of Drumbane/Upperchurch, they may be same as Kennedy,s in Clonoulty

I have a lot  of research done on them.

    Do you have DNA done.

Best of luck with your research. Let me know what you think, and is this helpful.

  • Hi Christina

    Thank you for your informations.

People from the townland Ballyhane and surrounding areas were in this period most likely buried in the graveyard of the todays CoI Church in Templederry, e.g. Hugh Kennedy and Long Andrew Kennedy.

As I don't have information at all about my gggggrandfather Thomas Kennedy it is anyway difficult to research further back. The only connection is Thomas K.'s nephew John Kennedy (1813-1897) from Ballyhane, Kilnaneave, Co. Tipperary.

I know the wonderful website of Tipperary Studies. In the Dolla Rate Books 1846 are still Kennedys for the townland Ballyhane. https://tippstudiesdigital.ie/files/original/19/560/Dolla%20Rate%20Book…

Yes, I did DNA tests with MyHeritage, Ancestry and 23andme. I loaded down the raw data on FTDNA. My member name is Marlise Wunderli.

On Gedmatch the kit name is Miracula and the kit nr. KD2857752.

I know about the Kennedy gatherings with Brian Kennedy from AUS. As I live in Switzerland it is not around the corner...

I tried to contact Mark Kennedy from AUS who is administrating 32 of my DNA-matches. He held a speech about his research results at the last Kennedy Gathering which is seemingly not available digitally.
