Do I have any Whelan, Dalton or Carroll relatives in or near Borrisokane?

My great-grandmother was Mary Whelan baptised in 1846 at Borrisokane.  She was the daughter of William WHELAN and Ellen DALTON. Ellen was probably the daughter of John DALTON & Eliza CARROLL.

I believe Ellen DALTON was born around 1816 and had siblings:

  • John
  • Edward
  • Frances, and
  • Patrick.

Mary WHELAN emigrated to Melbourne Australia around 1860.  She had five siblings:

  • James
  • William
  • Eliza
  • Ellen and
  • John.   John, born in 1840, also emigrated to Melbourne.

In 1882 Patrick Dalton's daughter Mary, born in 1861, emigrated to Australia.  Mary's mother was Julia Coleman.  Patrick DALTON and Julia COLEMAN had other children:

  • John
  • James
  • Michael &
  • Patrick

    I'm adding a postscript to my reply to you yesterday.

    I had forgotten that Patrick Dalton and Julia Coleman had another daughter - Elizabeth, baptised in 1872.  When I asked the Nenagh Heritage people to search for baptisms some years ago, they did not include Elizabeth, so Mary Dalton was not their only daughter.

    It's great to hear from another descendant of Patrick Dalton and Julia Coleman. 

    In 2012 I exchanged emails with Mike Dalton whose great-grandparents were also Patrick Dalton and Julia Coleman, Mike's grandfather being their second son James Camillus Dalton.

    I have Whelan, Dalton and Lalor/Lawler ancestors from Borrisokane.

    I am descended from Ellen Dalton who is my great-great-grandmother, born approx 1812.  I believe Ellen and Patrick Dalton are brother and sister.  It was a long time before I determined that they were brother and sister because there was a 20 year gap between their marriages.  Ellen married William Whelan in 1836 while Patrick did not marry Julia Coleman until 1856.

    I know Patrick and Julia had five children, so I suppose you must be descended from John born 1856, or Patrick born 1863 or Michael born 1865.  I can tell you a lot more about Mary Dalton born 1860-61, the only daughter of Patrick and Julia.
