  • We have confirmed a St.James baptism of an Archibald Billing on 29 Aug 1817 to William and Mary

We hope you have other evidence to support that this is the same family you are seeking.

We are hosting the pages for the neighboring St Catherine Dublin here at Ireland Reaching Out, and as as you may know, parts of St Catherines were formed from and or overlapped with St.James.

Do you have any further details available? You may also contact us via the email button. Based on your summary only, we have compiled the following thoughts.

There appear to be many of the Billing name seen in several parishes in Dublin proper and Greater Dublin throughout the 1700's and 1800s, including St. Catherine's, both Roman Catholic and Church of Ireland.

If you are still checking the indexes, for the marriage, children, or otherwise, be certain you have tried various spellings, and first name varients. For instance Wm or Willm for William, etc. Try searching just the last name, or just the first name, with various filters for place or time period, etc. Any creative ways to examine all the relavant computer data "hidden in the indexers format" that could represent the handwriting on the original registers for your people.

Of course not every record has been indexed. For instance in St. Catherine's (CofI) there are gaps in the registers themselves.

It could be that your family moved out of the parish before marriage and children? How thurough is your chronology of the family over the period you are seeking? Do you have any other information about the childrens names, departure, day or place, etc. to

Perhaps they went to Liverpool or England first, before getting international shipping?

Do you know of any other relatives from which you could triangulate their residence?

How is your progress for the earlier generations? We notice that there were no Billing nor Gill= in the valuation for St.James, St.Catherine, St.Thomas, St.Werburgh, so perhaps they were in St.James only briefly, or lived in a neighboring parish?

We did see a Thomas Giles on Clanbrassil Street in "St. Nicholas Without"  parish, and a couple Gill  families in St.Audoen's.

Let us know how we might help you.
