I have just received the marriage certificate of their marriage on the 10th Feb 1891 in the Catholic church at Cloughjordan. I would appreciate any information. Her parents were farmers. Her father was John Mullaley and he was a farmer.

  • Do you know who Mary's mother was? I thought I knew but things have changed since this new certificate has come to light.

I've been searching most of today.

  • I do remember that  I had an Aunty Mary and an Aunty Minnie, possibly an Aunty Dorrie.  This I know My nan was sent out to New Zealand from the Dublin workhouse in 1910. I know she worked hard to pay for her two sisters to go to New Zealand. I have Kathleen on the ship and the date she arrived in New Zealand. She was 14/15 when she went to New Zealand.

  • Hi KateR
    you say........................
What I dont get, is that on my grandmother's birth certificate. it says: Kathleen Mary Ryan born Toomevara, 1895.
Whoever did this got it wrong.
That record is for a Kathleen Mary Mullin and her Mother was Mary Ryan.
Now this really bugs me,  I just search to help and I have contradicted paid reaserchers in the past.
I have gone through all the births I cannot find a Mary born 1902 to Mathew and Mary nee Mulally.
Also, the census for the family were not online. I know there are some missing.
Kyle in Cloughjordan, I know where that is.
I have put in the Civil records for John, Mary's brother, but the place Killinskera no idea where that is.
I call to relatives in Toomevara, next time I will look out for the place on the satnav.

  • Dear KateR:

I have read through this thread and I believe that Anne Marie did give you the correct information in the replies above.

The Roots Ireland database is a subscription service of transcribed records.  They only go to 1900 so that many church baptisms would not be available after that time period.

However, I did find the church baptism record for Mary Ryan baptised on 28 January 1902 in Toomevara.  Her parents were:  Matthew Ryan and Mary Mulally.  Sponsors were:  Denis Mulally and Mary Treacy and D. O'Meara was the officiating priest.

There doesn't appear to be a civil birth registration for this child in 1901 or 1902.  This did occur where a parent did not register a child within the 3 weeks and late registration incurred a fine.

We have a few local Tipperary volunteers who are quite familiar with Toomevara.  I will ask them to reply directly to you.  I have attached the baptism record for your reference.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance.

    All the best,

    Jane

  • Hi Kate and Carolyn

There was a query as to where Kilineskra is. The full name for the townland of Kyle -in the parish of Cloughjordan is Kylenaheskeragh. The spelling of the long version of the address often caused difficulties for people and Kilineskra is an incorrect spelling of Kylenaheskeragh. The shortened version (Kyle) is the version that is now used.
