I live in New Zealand and am trying to find out more about my Shea/Bolland ancestors. I have found the marriage of my Great Great Parents James Shea and Margaret Bolland, registered 1939 in the Diocese of Killaloe, Parish of Cloughjordan Catholic Register and also the Baptism of my Great Grandfather Edward Shea in 1940, in the same Parish.  My Great Grandfather Edward immigrated to New Zealand in1876. His mother Margaret immigrated a couple of years later.  Edward had a sister Jane already living in New Zealand (I haven't been able to find a Baptism record for Jane, but going by her death certificate she would have been born around 1842). I am assuming Grt Grt Grandfather James died in Ireland.  Any help on my Irish heritage would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I located three likely sibling baptismal records in Cloughjordan parish for James Shea with a wife Margaret. There was an Ony (possibly Jane) in 1842 Ellen in 1844 and Elleanor in 1845. The family lived in Loughaun townland in Modreeny civil parish. Here is the link to the parish register http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0775   I would look at the 1842 record to see if the name looks like Jane. The 1850 Griffiths Valuation listing for Modreeny did not show a James She so I'm wondering if he died between 1846 and 1850 which was the height of the Great Hunger.
