For all Fethard surnames: For seven years I've told Tipperary researchers that Rev. Walter Skehan Notes, Vol. 43, held at the Thurles library is a very informative Fethard Parish gnealogy source. It is also accessible on the Internet. I feel that I have not conveyed what a good source Skehan is. So I have started sharing the following example. Quirkes did not descend from Skehans. A Quirke married a Skehan descendant yet Quirke entries are amazingly informative. My family: the first Mchl Quirke 1797-1858 in Skehan was probably my GrGr GF's 1st cousin. Following is the entry for Mchl's descendant. "Michael Quirke (aadfa), baptised 15th Sept. 1860. Lived at Drangan and later at Hibernian Hotel, Fethard. Farmer, auctioneer (Firm of Stokes and Quirke) and hotelier. Died at Fethard 25th Sept. 1942. Married 1890 Maggie Britton of Cloneen who d. 18th Nov. 1933 aged 70. Both are married in Drangan Chapel yard. Michael educated at Rockwell – one of the early students there. Then worked for a time on farm, Ballyvadlea. Went to Australia about age of 24, to John Stokes. On return took shop in Gladstone St., Clonmel (now, 1954, Pat McGraths) and married. As children (Bill) got bad health in Clonmel he sold business and took farm at Cloneen. Later took a shop in Drangan, and later still took Hibernian Hotel, Fethard." Thanks to Christina Hunt, Skehan can be accessed at http://www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/ire/tipperary/famhist.htm?fbclid=IwA…; I'd check Fethard and Cashel parish localities and surnames. Using "Control F" makes that so easy. The entries cover Fethard people from the early 1800s into the 1950s. Often the families are traced to Australia, Canada, England, Canada and the United States. I have also attached the Word document that I was given by genealogist Kathleen Fanning who put Skehan on her website at http://fanningfamilyhistory.com/index.php/2014/08/27/walter-skehan-pape…; Regards, Mary
