I am the great-great-grand-daughter of John Richardson of Borrisokane, and Charlotte Ledger of Mota, who married in 1823 and emigrated to Canada in 1825 with the Peter Robinson entourage. John's father was Samuel.  I do not know what Samuel's wife's name was.  It may have been Sarah.  Would any one be able to tell me?  Or the names of their children?   There may have been a Samuel who remained in Ireland.   I know there was John, Ann, Richard, and, I believfe, William, who all came to Canada at later dates.

John and Charlotte first stayed in Goulbourne with his uncle, William Richardson and wife, Mary, (who went to Canada with ther Talbot Expedition.)    Later, John and Charlotte settled on Allumette Island, where they raised a family , which included my great-grandfather, William Ledger Richardson, who went to the US and returned  for a time, with his wife, Elizabeth Smith Hanson, and two children.  My grandfather, John Charles Richardson, was born in Canada, but later immigrated  with his father and family to the US to homestead there.  My query is for information re John's family in Borrisokane.  I would like to know all the names of the childrem of Samuel and that of his wife.  I am trying to prove a sibling connection to the William Richardson who married Anne Hodgins in Shawville, Quebec, with John, Ann, and Richard.    Would appreciate any help researchers of Ireland Reaching Out can give me.

  • Hello Mary,

we have just seen your post and are delighted to see i, as earlier in the year we did try to make contact with you as we had seen a post by you on Roots Ireland. In the parish here of Kilbarron Terryglass we are doing a project to record all those who left our parish and went to Canada in the early 1800s. As Charlotte was from Mota we included the family.

We were unable as of yet to source the exact Ladger family nor the Richardsons but are stil hopeful.

What we have sourced is similar to what you have.

We did feel Charlotte may have been a sister to John ledger born 1794 who went to England and called his first daughetrCharlotte, and Edward who went to Australia?

    Charlotte and John's daughter Mary Ann(1829 - 1871) and Charlotte (1832 - 1897) travelled with them.In canada they had William (1835 - 1897): Richard (1836 - 1907): Samuel (1837 - 1919): John (1841 - 1863): Ann M (1843 - 1908):

The Ledger family owned land around the Ballinderry area. Ballinderry is right in the middle of the parish.

It might be easier to follow this up by email and you can do so on ktf1815cnada@gmail.com

In the mean time if you wish take a look at the Website- KilbarronTerryglass 1815 or FaceBook Page- Kilbarron Terryglass 1815.

As I said it is great to see your post and hopefully we maybe of some help to you.

    Helen.
