I am interested in information about a Rev Robert Peacock of the Church of Ireland.

I have no concrete information about him but it appears

(1) He was born about 1740 and died in 1808.

(2) He had a sister Elizabeth and a daughter Elizabeth

(3) An obituary which appears to be his says that he served the curacy of Lorrha for 49 years until his death and that for 40 years he was the rector and chancellor of Kiltenora

  • Dear David

Apologies for the long delay in getting back to you.

There is a Robert Peacock, Church of Ireland Baptism listed on Roots Ireland. This Robert was baptised in the parish of Rathkeale, Co. Limerick in 1745 and his father is lasted as Henry. His mother's name as Mary.  A Catherine and Mary were also born to this couple, but no sign of any record for an Elizabeth. It is not possible to say if this is your Robert or not without something else to substantiate it. Rootsireland is a subscription site but you can join for €25 per month and subscribe as suits you.

Have you contacted the Representative Church Body in Rathfarnham in Dublin - they may be able to provide more concrete info, especially as the period of your search is so early, probably too early for parish records.

    Best wishes

  • Hey David,

Can't give you much on Robert Peacock. However he was my wife's great-great-great grandfather. His daughter Eliza married my wife (Charmaine Halfhide)'s great great grandfather Benjamin Halfhide in 1807. They had 9 children before she died and he remarried.

My wife's great great grandfather was Robert Sampson Halfhide, born in 1813.  They had two children prior to Eliza and Benjamin moving to India in 1813.

Eliza died in 1822. Benjamin was from Merton, Surrey UK, and was a Lieutenant in the British army. I am not yet sure how he ended up marrying Eliza in Ireland.

I picked up tiny bits and pieces of information from newspapers:

"Marriage: November 30, 1857 - at 18, North Earl-street, at a very advanced age, Miss Anna PEACOCK,
daughter of the late Rev Robert PEACOCK DD of Ross, rector of Lurra, co Tipperary,
and Chancellor of Lurra, co Tipperary, much ..."

"Titles dated the 3rd day of September 1790. Rev. Robert Peacock, A. B. • chancellor. "

    Cheers,
