My ancestors were born in 1850's so the name may have changed from what their children put on their death certificates.

Their parents were Andrew Godfrey married Johanna McGrath in Dundrum parish. They married on 20 Feb 1855. The witness listed is Michael Shea.

I think Andrew was older and may have been previously married - my suspicion, no evidence yet. I have found records for an Andrew Godfrey in 1853 Griffiths Valuation in Rathneaveen (Ryan), Tipperary, Ireland, and 1828 in the Tithe Applotments. This is about 14 km away from Dundrum / Knockavilla so could be him, maybe.

The children that were found by a search of the baptism records for me (and the 3 I know of):

Catherine - baptised  16 Feb 1856 - sponsor Patrick Ryan and Mary McGrath

Maragret - baptised 13 Jul 1858 - Sponsor: John and Margaret Mc Grath

Denis - baptised 22 Mar 1860 - Sponsor: Patrick Bourke and Mary Godfrey

All three made it to Australia by 1880 but I have not found any records of them arriving in Australia. All get married and die in QLD, Australia. Catherine first marriage is Tweed River, NSW.

What am I seraching for:

1. Did Andrew and or Johanna die in Ireland or did they also come to Australia? Where and When did they die.

2. Is there any accurate land records for 1856-1860 that would show Andrew as tenent / owner of land in or around Dundrum / Knockavilla.

3.  What about tenent / owner of land (or anything really) for the Godfrey and MCGrath families generally in the Dundrum / Knockavilla area.

4.  Anything on the baptism sponsors particularly the Mary Godfrey and McGrath god parents - presumably siblings of Andrew and Johanna

    Rathneaveen (Ryan) townland is in Tipperary civil parish and is part of the Tipperary registration district.

    Dundrum and Knockavilla are in the Cashel registration district. I provide this information as background because when I searched for civil death index records for Johanna Godfrey, I did not find one in the Cashel district but I did find one in the Tipperary district. So if the family was living in Rathneaveen (Ryan) then the record below may be correct.

    I did not locate any civil death index records for Andrew Godfey anywhere in Co. Tipperary. This means that he died prior to 1864 or he died 1864 or after and the death was not registered.

    You can get a copy of this record from the General Register Office for around 4 euros. If you plan to get a copy let me know and I will forward instructions.
