My g-g-grandparents John Butler and Bridget Britt were married at St. Mary's on March 4, 1831. My g-gf James Butler was their first child, b. March 11, 1832, and baptized March 22. I have found 4 other children born to them - William b. 1834, Alice b. 1834, John b. 1837 and Patrick b. 1839. James and Patrick immigrated to Memphis TN and died there. I do not know anything about the other children.
I found a John Butler baptized in 1802 at St. Mary's, son of James and Mary Crotty Butler. He could be my John, but I do not know for sure. In the early to mid-1800s, a James and Mary Butler owned the Great Globe Inn in Clonmel. In the 1880s, the hotel became the current Clonmel Town Hall.
I cannot find any parents for Bridget Britt. One of the witnesses at her wedding was Robert Britt (later Brett) who was probably a brother or cousin. I have found the parents of Robert, James Britt and Joanna Luddy, and two other sisters, Ellen and Joann. No mention of Bridget.
There are several Butler-Britt marriages in Newcastle and Bridget may have been from that parish. The home of John and Bridget was in Marlfield adjacent to the old Marlfield Church and Cemetery. All their children were baptized at St. Mary's in Clonmel since the Marlfield Church was protestant.
Thank you for any information about the family.
