My cousin's brickwall are Bernard TRAYNOR married to Mary nee HOEY or perhaps HOYLE. He is a tailor. According to the UK census for 1881 he was born about 1817 in "Monaghan Co" and Mary was born about 1819  in "Thurles Meath Co" Ireland.  The only Thurles in Ireland that I can find googling is in Tipperary and so I am posting my query here. Bernard and Mary emigrated to Lancashire, England, probably around 1835. We are trying to find their birth and marriage years and places and Mary's maiden name.Thank you for any help you can give me.

  • Hello Edwin, I have been asked to look at unanswered queries and Hoey is a name I associate with Louth in Ireland, neighbours Meath and I wonder if this is the place which is near Drogheda but in Meath, Drogheda is in both counties. https://www.townlands.ie/meath/duleek-lower/painestown/painestown/thurs…

There are a number of records for Bernard Traynor and variants; Treanor and Trainor etc but none suit your mans Monaghan but again Monaghan borders Louth and some parishes cross county boundaries, same for Mary Hoey, Traynor is a common enought name in north Louth so I think your areas are the borders of Meath and Monaghan with Louth, working off church records there are no exact matches to the counties you mention but a lot of Mary Hoey's baptised in the years you menton and around it.

Really without their parents names it is not possible to identify the correct one and there is also a big chance that records for the appropriate parish are not available or lost etc

So little news even at this length of time.

    Good Luck

    Pat
