  • Thanks. I neglected to mention that I have the deaths for all but John Carew and Mary Kearney. The remainder emigrated to Australia.

That was my first post. I will work it out

  • Hi,

The Carew  surname is most commonly found in the parishes of west Tipperary,

in the hinterland of Tipperary Town. The parishes where it occurs most often

    are Knockavilla/Donaskeigh, Annacarty/Donohill and Clonoulty/Rossmore. There

are also a few Carews in and around Tipperary Town. The area involved is small

and Carew is not a particularly numerous surname so your chances of finding relatives

are pretty good. If you're looking for ancestors, parish records are always a good place

    to start.

    James.

  • I am looking for an  Ellen Carew age 26 when she arrived in Sydney on the vessel SIMONDS
on 12 April 1855, Botany Bay (departed 13 Jan, Liverpool). She listed herself as a  farm servant. From Cahir, Tipperary. Could not read or write. She indicated that her parents were Thomas and Mary.

However, family anecdotes state that she was the daughter of Lord and Lady Carew who wanted her to marry a cousin (a Roman Catholic, for lineage purposes) but Ellen wanted to marry a Methodist and ran away to Australia in the company of her maid. There, she married a William Creber with two of their offspring ending up in Tonga.

Can anyone provide links to the Ellen Carew that I am researching?
