Do you know what religion the family were? Also, even though Kate?s death certificate states Tipperary, Ireland, this may be referring to the County Tipperary only, and not the parish of Tipperary. (Irish land divisions can be very confusing, for more information on this follow this link http://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/Irish-land-divisions.html )

Most Irish record sources are based on parishes, so it may make your search easier if you can confirm Tipperary parish as a place of origin. You may be able to use the land records to do this. These records do not have any genealogical information but can sometimes be used to tie a person to a specific place. You could try searching for Kate?s parents. There are two:

The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp

and Griffith?s Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/

Once you have a definite parish you can then look at Church records for information. Most Catholic records are held locally. One website which you may find helpful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. Follow this link to the Roman Catholic parishes of Tipperary.
