I'm trying to find a birth record for a Thomas James Robinson born in Co Tipperary in 1857 or 1859.
I think he might have been living in the Marlfield area when he was 18. The reason I think this is because he when he joined the Royal Irish Constabulary he was recommemnded by Sub-inspector Aldworth who was stationed at Marlfield, and usually the person making the recommendation would be someone local to the applicant.
Thomas's fathers name was George and George might have been a policeman, but I'm not certain of that. I have no information about his mother.
Thomas was Church of Ireland, so I'm looking for info about CofI parishes in the Marlfield area, and where their records are.
Thank you,
Maria

Marlfield townland is in Inishlounaght parish. Copies of the Church of Ireland parish records may be held locally and/or may be with the RCB library in Dublin. See:

You had to be 19 to join the RIC, but only 18 if a family member had also served with them. So if Thomas was 18 when he joined then that would suggest family links with the force. (I suspect you may know that already).
You can get a copy of his service record from the PSNI museum, for a fee of ?25. See: http://www.psni.police.uk/index/about-us/police_museum/museum_genealogy.htm
There is also a specialist site for people interested in former RIC staff:
