Hello,

I am looking for information on William Phelan (b. abt. 1806-7) and Catherine Day (b. abt. 1805-6) who, according to 1871 Canadian census records, show they were both born in Ireland. On William Phelan's death record (3 Feb 1920, Halifax, Nova Scotia) it shows he was born in "Tipperary." On Catherine's death record (2 Jun 1867, Halifax, Nova Scotia) it shows she was born in "Co. Tipperary." There oldest son James Phelan, according to his marriage record (1866), was born abt. 1838 in "Ireland" and the next child I could find, John William Phelan, was born in Halifax in 1843 which indicates that William, Catherine and James Phelan would have immigrated to Canada between 1838 and 1843.

Any information or help pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi,

Thank you for pointing that out, while my family genes for longevity are good they are not that good! I used the son and daughter-in-law's death dates in error for both William Phelan and Catherine Day. I will repost the entire message but in the meantime, William Phelan was born abt. 1806-07 in Tipperary and died 8 Jul 1874 (age abt. 68 yrs.) in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada and Catherine Day was born abt. 1805-06 in Tipperary and died 2 jun 1867 (age abt. 62 yrs.) in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
