I am researching the Conlon/Conlan/Conlin family of Aughnacloy. Charles Conlon was born between 1791 and 1973 to Bernardus Conlon and Mary McAuley and was of Catholic faith.
Charles and his two brothers Patrick and Edward were tried in August 1813 for robbery. Charles was transported for Life to Australia arriving on the "Canada" in 1815.
He married Elizabeth Hand (aged 15) in February 1828 in Sydney, New South Wales. They had 14 children. He died on 8 June 1869 in Richmond, New South Wales, and was buried in Windsor, New South Wales.
Any information about the families life in Ireland would be appreciated.

Tracey,
Unfortunately the RC parish records for Aghaloo parish (which includes Aughnacloy) don’t start till 1846, so you won’t find a record of Charles or his parents. (His father will likely just be Bernard. Many RC records were kept in Latin, or sometimes cod Latin, and so Bernard becomes Bernardus in Latin. He would have been known as Bernard to everyone).
Charles court case may have been reported in the papers. The Belfast Newsletter is on-line on Ancestry. Newspaper reports in those days were fairly short but there might be a little information. Since the offence merited transportation, you are probably looking for a record of the Assizes, which sat every 3 months or so. Probably in Omagh if he lived in Co. Tyrone.
