McBRIDE from Kildress, Dunamore (?) 1840's to Co Durham, England and beyond

Dunnamore is a townland of 876 acres. Mostly agricultural land.  Today the modern Dunnamore Rd runs through the middle of it. It’s off the A505 from Cookstown to Omagh.

I looked in Griffiths Valuation for 1859 but did not see any McBride households listed in Dunnamore (there was a Peter & a John elsewhere in the parish of Kildress). That doesn’t mean your family weren’t living there, just that they didn’t have a big enough property to merit listing. Or it might mean they were staying with someone else. Or if females, they had married.

In the 1901 census there were a total of 177 people there in 46 households. Mostly farmers. No McBrides.

Statutory death registration started in Ireland in 1864. I searched for a death of a Daniel McBride born c 1800 but did not find one in the Dunnamore area of anywhere near the right age. That suggests he died before 1864 (or had moved out of the area).

No McBrides in the tithe applotment records for Kildress parish in 1826. The tithes only list people with land (ie mostly farmers). Labourers and others with no land or staying with another family are not listed:

Hello ... You may already have documented Alexander McBride's marriage to Mary Monaghan?  But just in case not, I offer the following record in the parish Kildress Baptisms 1835-1920 typed transcript in my possession, St. Joseph's RC Church:  SPONSUS [Marriages/grooms], Pg. 19 - McBRIDE Alexander [to] Mary MONAGHAN, address Dunnamore, 14 11 1856 [14 Nov 1856] Witnesses Michal (sic) DONELLY and Mary DONELLY.   The transcript lists 8 McBRIDE baptisms.  No father Daniel, however.  Happy to detail those baptismal record entries if they might be of interest.  Briefly, there are two McBRIDE baptisms in the townland of Murnells; five in Knockaleery, and one in Glenarny.  Folks in Knockaleery are of great interest to me, as this was the townland of my 2X great grandmother, Sarah LAGAN, daughter of Christopher.  In addition, Sarah's sister and husband and family all lived and died in Birtley.  Best,  Jennifer

Thank you so much. If it isn't much trouble, I would greatly appreciate the other baptism information you have. Interesting how they travelled to the same places. I used the St Joseph RC church records microfilm and it was a huge help. That's really how I started "creating" this family. Thank you again for your offer.

Felix McBride provided the death information for two sisters of his mother Mary Monaghan: Ann Monaghan who died in 1895 at 62 and Bridget who died at 52 in 1894. Felix also was listed on the will of Charles Monaghan who died 10/10/1883 and his estate was granted 2/12/1897 to a sister. Felix married Feb 26, 1896. He and his father Alexander were living at Dunnamore per the marriage register. Felix married Catherine Loughran, born 1867 at Killucan to John Loughran. Felix had at least three daughters with Catherine: Bridget Ann born Feb 4, 1897, Mary born Aug 17, 1898 both born at Cookstown and Eliza born abt 1900. The family was living at Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland in 1901. Hope this new information.
