One side of my Irish roots were from County Tyrone, Killeeshil, Tullyallen to be specific. The Raffertys, John and wife Mary McGilley, children, her mother, also Mary McGilley, and a sister, Jane McGilley, came to the US, landing in New Orleans. They settled in Hamilton County, Iillinois. A James McGilley was alredy located there, probably the elder Mary McGilley's son. I have marriage (RC) record of William and Mary, and baptism records of several of the chiildren. However, I have no information on any of these people before my first record of the marriage in 1833.
There has to have been kin left when they people came to the US, surely some are still in the area?

Hi there,
There are Roman Catholic church records for the diocese of Killeeshil, but these only begin from 1845. The diocese of Tullyallen (Armagh) church records date from 1816 for baptismal, marriage and burial records. You can find these at the National Library of Ireland, Pos. 5582; from 1849, Pos. 5599. If you have any difficulty, you could try writing to the parish priest for more assistance.
You could also check the 1796 Spinning Wheel Premium lists. There are 7,150 names for Co. Tyrone. You can find this on www.failteromhat.com
You could also try checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) or the later Griffth's Valuation (1848-64). Griffith's is freely available here: www.askaboutireland.com or here: www.failteromhat.com Failte Romhat has lots of other useful links you could try looking at.
There are a number of estate records you could also check for Killeeshil. These include the landlord: Stewart. Survey with tenants' names. Dated 1730. National Library of Ireland (NLI), Ms. 8734 (1). Also, Stewart rentals, 1786-88, NLI Ms. 766. And the landlord: Verner/Wingfield, rental. Public Records of Northern Ireland (PRONI) D/2538, 1830.

I also have ancestors from Killeeshil Parish. They were married at the Tullyallen Mass House (which is now in the American Folk Park) in 1818. I found their transcribed marriage record online at RootsIreland.ie. You can join for free, search, then pay for only the documents you want to look at.
I found the 'Killeeshil and Clonanesse Historical Society' online and joined for £20. They scanned the actual church register of births, marriages, and deaths, and put them online in pdf format so that you can download them; only thing is they are in Latin.
If your ancestors were born, married, or died within Killeeshil Parish, then you should be able to find the records on RootsIreland.ie, then (if you want) you can join the Historical Society and download the parish registers.
