My Lindsay and Britton families lived in Leckpatrick, Strabane, in the mid-1800s. I don't know when they first arrived in Northern Ireland, but have some indication that they were originally from Scotland. I have found the Lindsays listed in the Griffith's Valuation living in Woodend, Leckpatrick, Strabane, Tyrone, Ireland
James Lindsay, son of William Lindsay and Isabella Kilday, was born on 02 Feb 1834 in Strabane, Tyrone, Ireland.
James married Margaret Britton (daughter of Thomas Britton - I don't know her mother's name). Margaret was born in Jul 1847 in Leckpatrick.
I have found a transcription of their marriage record, with the exact date missing; based on the marriages immediately before and after theirs, it would have occurred between June 1870 and March 1871, in the Lechpatrick Presbyterian church, Joseph Leitch was the minister.
James and Margaret had 5 children that I know of, before they all emigrated to the USA.
- Margaret Lindsay was born on 26 Sep 1870 in Ireland
- William David Lindsay was born on 03 Feb 1872 in Leckpatrick
- John James Lindsay was born on 08 Jul 1874 in Strabane
- Frank B Lindsay was born in May 1878 in Ireland (the "B" may stand for Britton, but I'm not certain)
- Elizabeth Lindsay was born on 24 Mar 1876 in Woodend
They emigrated to the USA, settling in Massachusetts, between 1876 and 1880.

Hi
If you haven't already you could try checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
or the later Griffith's Valuation (1848-64) http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
or the Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS) https://familysearch.org/ for the family & their relatives.
Failte Romhat has lots of other useful links you could try looking at ). www.failteromhat.com
Some sites that might be of use to you:

Remember to post as much information as you can regarding the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.

Hi,
I wonder what it is you are looking for.
The marriage of the two people does not seem to be in either Familysearch or Rootsireland which suggests to me that it was not registered. If you have a transcription from the church, I am not sure why it does not have the date.
Neither of the above two databases has the birth of either Margaret Britton or James Lindsay but both would have been pre Civil Registration so it would have to be a church baptism.
I can see the births of Margaret in 1870, William in 1872, John James in 1874 and Elizabeth in 1876 at Familysearch. But I see Francis in 1877 not 1878 (note the same date as Elizabeth so there may be a problem here):

There are no more.
You seem to have found the home of the Lindsays in the townland of Woodend in the Pa of Leckpatrick in the Griffiths Valuation. He had a 9 acre farm and rented a cottage to a John Lindsay. A William and a Francis Britton also have a small farm in Woodend though no Thomas. What is your source for Thomas being the father of Margaret? If it is Thomas, then he must be living in the household of either Francis or William. There are GV maps online which would enable you to find the exact place where these people all lived.
Judicious use of the online websites might help identify some of the other Brittons and Lindsays mentioned in the Griffiths. I am sure they will be related as neither name, especially Britton, is very common in this part of the world.
