Hi

my great grandmothers name was Teresa Mary Kennedy. She was baptised in England (newcastle upon Tyne). Unsure if she was born in England or Ireland. Teresa married an australian born man - William Horace Roberts - on the 12 May (unsure of year). They met in WW1. After marriage moved to Australia.

Teresa Mary Kennedy's mother - Teresa Devlin - lived in Ireland - evidence we have suggests it could have been Dungannon - Teresa Devlin married a Kennedy, unsure of his name but he was from Ireland also.

any records of Teresa Devlin/Kennedy ?

There is an 1865 civil marriage index record for a Teresa Devlin in the Dungannon registration district. One of the two possibly spouses was Joseph Kennedy. Is 1865 too early for a marriage for your Teresa Devlin?

Census Records [1871-1911] show Joseph and Teresa Kennedy living in Newcastle Upon Tyne.  The 1911 Census states that both Joseph and Teresa were born in Killyman which is in Dungannon, Co Tyrone.  They have been married for 45 years which is in keeping with the Marriage Roger discovered and the children all appear to have been born in Newcastle Upon Tyne.

I've attached the 1911 Census to show the reference to Killyman.

  • Hi

i found out some new information. Teresa Devlins husband's name was actually John Kennedy. Roger suggested a Joseph, could Joseph been the middle name?

also, my great grandmother who I thought was 'Theresa Mary' was christened - 'Mary Theresa '- and was born on 3 march 1896. The 1911 consensus that was attached states Mary was 35 in 1911. But Mary would have only been 15.

Jonh's mothers maiden name was  Mary Ann O'Hara.

    Does the new information help?

  • Hi Roger

i have found out that Teresa Devlins husbands name was John Kennedy. Is Joseph definitely the Christian name & not middle?

i am thinking that maybe that marriage date is too early.

I'm wondering if your Teresa Devlin and John Kennedy were married in England? I looked at all Teresa Devlin marriages in Ireland registered since 1864 and the only one with a Kennedy spouse is the 1865 marriage. Looks like the records that Veronica and I found were for a different couple from Dungannon Tyrone.

  • Hi Roger

Maybe they were. Can you recommend any places sites in England that I might be able to investigate with?

Thanks for your time & help with this Roger & Veronica. I really appreciate it.

I don't normally research English records. Do you have access to Ancestry.com? If not maybe you can get a free trial subscription.

  • Hi Roger

    thats OK thanks.

How about John Kennedy's family, his mothers name was Mary Ann O'Hara.

    Any records of them?

Civil registration started in 1864 for all of Ireland. Not sure when the parents of John Kennedy married.

I looked for Mary Anne O'Hara and there were no marriages to a Kennedy until 1907. I then searched for Mary O'Hara. There was an 1867 marriage of a Mary O'Hara to a Robert Kennedy in the Belfast registration district. There was a 1867 marriage of a Mary O'Hara to a Patrick Kennedy in Co. Sligo and finally an 1869 marriage of a Mary O'Hara to a Hugh Kennedy in the Ballymena ( Co. Antrim) registration district.

If John was born before 1867, we can rule out these marriages. Reaction?
