John Wilson Menagh

Thanks for the comments about Wilson George Menagh. Like you I thought there must be a connection because of the name. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find any further information. Perhaps he was an uncle or other near relative.

Have you tried to get a copy of John Menagh?s RIC records? That should tell you a little about his life. You can apply for a copy from the PSNI museum in Belfast:

I have assorted information about the Menagh (often spelled Meenagh) family of Moy. There was a John Menagh on Killyman Street who's listed in directories as a crane master and sexton of the Church. He disappears from the directories and from Griffiths around 1880 which corresponds to an entry in the civil death index for a John Meenagh in the correct registration district of Dungannon. That entry would make him born about 1796 so it could be a good fit for your ancestor. There are possible registrations for John’s wife too.

There were also Simon and Nathaniel Menagh who were a few years younger than John and lived in Moy and had many descendents.

I have a John Wilson Menagh here in Australia. My Great Grandfather could have possibly aided in surgery of John if its the same person, It appears a Constable in the Victorian Police Force.

It also appears John was the brother in law of my Great Grandfather. Marrying Ellen Darling.

If we can prove the link, I have some detail for you.

I got a message about an Simon Menagh living in Ayrshire but I've never been able to reply to messages on this site.

Many of the Moy Menagh's moved to Scotland so that one was probably from Moy.

John Wilson Menagh is my GG Grandfather. He was a member of the Victoria Police Force and was shot while on duty. His Father-in-law is Edward Darling who was also in the Vic Police Force. I would be appreciative of any info you may like to share and am happy to share any info I have that is of interest to you re the Menagh or Darling families. I am in Western Australia. Kind regards
