  • Hi Kathleen

There is a marriage of Robert McConnell in 1829 Raphoe Donegal on findmypastireland (it costs to view more details)

    McConnell Robert — — 1829 Raphoe Marriage bonds 1710-55, 1817-30 Raphoe, Ireland

I then checked Raphoe on google and the Barony of Raphoe has a townland Ballygawley.

To double check I tried Judith Beatty for the same marriage and got no matches so got a bit discouraged until I tried Beatty with no first name and got a match for MARIAH Beatty in the same marriage!

ancestry has Robert's father as John; the only record for this on rootsireland is 27 July 1804 Tullyaughnish Donegal

Do you happen to know what religion they were?

I couldn't see Robert on Family Search - how did you find them in Ballygawley?

  • Hi Col,

    Thank you for replying.

A few years ago a book was printed by a descendant of Robert 's which is where I got the information from. The family were Protestant's apparently Robert was an Orangeman, his occupation was a carpenter. He may have had two brothers James and John and a younger sister Mary. One of the sons I put down as Robert was actually William James, who migrated to Australia. Another  relative travelled to Ballygawley to look up early family records.A researcher we used found the deaths for Robert and Judith, I will look for them to see where she found them.
