  • I see 4 other Mullin households in Tattykeel (Buchanan). I?d suspect they are relatives and so you might want to bear them in mind when researching your tree. Their records may well link into Neil?s line.

The 1901 census suggests Neil & his wife were born in 1840. The children?s ages suggest a marriage in the early 1860s.

Tattykeel is in the RC parish of Drumragh. Unfortunately their earliest baptism & marriage records are only from 1846, so you won?t get either baptism from that. You might find the couples marriage (I?d look pre 1864 since it doesn?t appear in the civil registration database). But you may not get the parents names from that. Often at that time all you get is the date, the 2 cou8pels names and their 2 witnesses.

Looking at Griffiths Valuation for Tattykeel in 1860, I see a Patrick Mullins (plot 2 a 26 acre farm); Charles Mullins on plot 7 (a 23 acre farm) & Neil Mullins on plot 11 (a 15 acre farm). In addition most of the farmers in the townland had a communal share of the mountain top for grazing.

Looking at the revaluation records, it changes to Frances Mullins in 1907, then to Mary Anne Mullins in 1911. So you know that your ancestors farm was plot 11, and that make sit easy enough to locate today.

You would probably need to look up the tithe applotment records for the parish (1820/30) to see who was occupying Neil?s farm then. (Hopefully it was the same size). That may be the only way of finding his father?s name. (A personal visit to PRONI required to view them).

PRONI has 11 probate files for Mullin(and variant spellings) of Tattykeel. You might want to have a look at them. Put Tattykeel in the box marked ?full abstract? and leave everything else blank. That will bring them all up.
