I would love to know more and go back further into my ancestry as most of you:) My family tree seems to stop, on the matriarchal side, with Rebekah Young(no last name for her mother Margaret)...She was the the mother of Barbarba McComb, Barbara McComb was the wife of John Nickell who lived in lower Beldoney Tyrone Ulster Ireland....I would love to go back to pre Christian rule if possible....

John Nickel was born around 1720,and he immigrated to Augusta,Virginia.

Is anyone here familiar with Michael Tsarion's work? He is from Ireland and wrote The Irish HIstory of Civilization(2 Volumes)....Just wondering...I am interested in visiting Ireland, the sacred sites, and going  more in depth into our diistant past:)  Any information would be greatly appreciated:)

    Hi Rivette,

    Thank you for your message.

Unfortunately, the reality of finding documentation pertaining to births/baptisms/marriages/deaths in Ireland prior to 1800 ? particularly in rural areas ? is that they simply may not exist.

It may be an idea to contact the Irish World Heritage Centre for assistance, however a fee may apply for their services. Here are their contact details:

Ireland has an abundance of important historical sites many of which are steeped in mystery, mythology and religion. A site which you may find interesting if you are planning on visiting is http://www.discoverireland.ie/Things-To-Do/Arts-Culture-and-Heritage/Ireland-through-the-Ages/Tracing-Your-Ancestors

Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.

    Kind regards,

  • The parish that your ancestor lived in is Badoney Lower (rather than Beldoney). Unfortunately there are simply no church records going back to that period for that parish. The earliest start in 1812 and so research in the 1700s is extremely difficult, if not impossible.
