George Brown and his wife ? lived in Lurganeden, when their daughter was born Dec 1813. I have listed that George was a clerk in his church, and is buried in the church cemetery. Their daughter Jane Reed Brown Fulton, married 21Sep1836 in Pomeroy by the Rev. Wm. Evans, to Charles Fulton son of William Fulton and Jane McClarren of Sixmilecross. Jane and Charles immigrated to Belmont Co., OH in 1837. They attended Presbyterian Churches in the Belmont Co., OH and two of their sons became Presbyterian ministers. The youngest son visited the homeland in 1882, where he preached in several churches, he wrote that he stood where his grandfather once stood.over the Bible...in the church...and put a flower on his grandparents' graves.
Anyway, any help on info about George Brown and his wife, would be grately appreciated. I assume they were Presbyterian...but not positive. I don't know any further on George or his wife, except that I think they had a son Robert Brown who married Nancy Fulton and immigrated to Philadelphia, PA at the same time as Jane and Charles.

Hi Jean,
Thank you for your message.
It may be difficult to find information on George and his wife as the reality of finding documentation pertaining to births/baptisms/marriages/deaths in Ireland prior to 1800 ? particularly in rural areas ? is that they simply may not exist. you best bet is probably to look in church records. Presbyterian registers are held in three main locations:
- in local custody
- in the Public Records of Northern Ireland (PRONI) http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm
- at the Presbyterian Historical Society http://www.presbyterianhistoryireland.com in Belfast.
PRONI has microfilm copies of almost all registers in Northern Ireland and also lists of records held by the Presbyterian Historical Society.
It may be an idea to contact the irish World heritage Centre in tyrone for some assistance given the early dates you are looking at. However a fee may apply. Here are their contact details:
Irish World Heritage Centre,
51 Dungannon Road,
Coalisland,
Co. tyrone,
B71 4HP
Phone: +44 28 8774 6065 Email: info@irish-world.com
Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,
