Hi everyone,

I am searching for Mulholland ancestors. There are some Mulhollands still in Carrickmore and I have been in touch with them. But we don't know if we're related. I am looking for a common ancestor who possibly stayed in the area (whereas my ancestors left and came to Rhode Island, USA in 1845).

My ancestor lived in the townland of Tyrooney (see attcahed) in 1825. There are other Mulhollands in the area at the time but don't know if they are related.

So I am looking for any information on the family of Patrick Mulholland (born 1776). His parents were Peter and Betsey.

Thank you!

    Document was not attached.

The townland is spelled Tiroony. I checked the 1911 census and there were no Mulhollands in that townland. There was one Mulholland family in the nearby townland of Gleneeny. however, the two brothers and one sister were not married and likely stayed unmarried so the name would have died out (at least for that family).

  • Hi Roger,

Thanks for the response. I attached the file this time. Back in 1825 it seems it was spelled Tyrooney. You're right, the name seems to have died out in the area after 1911. Sadly.

I wonder though if there is another way to find out the family relations as they were back in 1825. Perhaps the other family members moved away. That at least gives the opportunity to track their migrations and find out where they went and find their descendants.

    Thanks again.

  • Sam:

Townland spellings do change over the years.

The RC church records for Terminmaguirk parish do not start until 1834. ( I made the assumption that they were RC).  This complicates your ability to relate the various Mulhollands.

You may want to consider autosomal DNA testing. You would also have to get the Mulhollands in Carrickmore to also test so results can be compared.
