My 3X great grandmother was Sarah McNally (1776-1866) from Termon Rock Carrickmore.  She migrated to Australia with her daughter Catherine and son James in 1841.  Any information on these family members would be welcome.

  • Hi there,

Thank you very much for your query to Ireland Reaching Out. There are some records for the Termonmaguirk area dated to 1780. This is a householders list that can be found at the Representative Church Body Library GS 2/7/3/25. If you are lucky, you might find Sarah McNally's details or parent's details listed on this.

You could also check emigration records in Australia. Do you know the circumstances of their emigration?

    Kind regards,

  • Thank you Sinead.  I know that Sarah's children Catherine and James arrived in Australia on a ship called the 'Gilmore' in 1841.  Catherine was listed as a  house servant and her brother James a labourer.  I have not been able to find details on Sarah's immigration as yet but she died in 1866 at age 90 and is buried in Ulverstone Tasmania.  I do not know the circumstances but assume the situation in Ireland was grim and that is why they decided to leave.

I will check out the householders list. Hopefully I can find some details of Sarah there.

  • Is the Householders List online ?  I live in Australia and unless it is online I will be unable to access it for the present.
