One of the latest free, online records available is the above Census. Another way around this (if you haven't already done so) is to search for the family name on the public family trees on Ancestry.com. I have found this useful in my own personal ancestor search; you may get lucky and find a connection (or have someone contact you if you put your family tree up there).

If no one comes forward through our boards and you are interested in finding out more about who was in possession of the house/land from 1911, your latest info, then the cancelled/ revision books can be extremely useful as they can allow you to estimate the dates of significant events in your family's history - emigration and death for example. They can also assist you in finding out the names of potential descendants of your ancestor.

Unfortunately the books are not available online yet in the Republic of Ireland, though I do believe there is a project in the pipeline. They are found in the Valuation Office, Dublin. The NI records are available at PRONI up to 1933:

The records were designed to assess land and buildings and apply a value for payment.
