Hi, I am trying to find connections to the McSorley family who, at one time, lived in the Curr Beragh/Castlederg areas.

Do any of those listed below mean anything to anyone?

James McSorley

his son Hugh McSorley (bc1820) married Eleanor Rafferty (Cooley) They had 7 children that I know of:

1 dau Mary (b1840)

2 son John (b1841)

3 dau Ann (b1843)

4 son Michael (b1846)

5 son Patrick (b1848) married (1871) Susan Thompson (bc1847). They had 8 children that I know of:

              Catherine (b1872), James (B1874), Isabella (b1875), Patrick (b1878), Mary (b1880),

              William (b1882), Susan (b1885) & Bridget (b1888)

6 son Peter (b1853)

7 dau Eleanor (1855)

Can anyone help? Any and all help appreciated

All the best

  • Jacqui:

The 1901 census for Curr townland has three different McSorley families not sure how they are connected to your ancestors. No McSorleys in beragh in the 1901 census.

I also looked at the 1859 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Clogherny civil parish and there were a number of McSorley entries including some in Curr and Beragh.

I also provide a link to a good Co. Tyrone genealofy site.

  • Hi Roger

Thank you so much for this. Although I already have some of this information, it's still great to get. You never know what you may have missed.
