According to my ggg grandmother's marriage index, she was from Carradarra (Curradarra) townland in Aglish parish. Co. Waterford.

I have found a James Tobin in Curradarra in the 1861 Griffiths; maybe a relative, possibly a brother. My Catherine was born in 1816/17, and I am just assuming it's Curradarra because of the marriage record.

I know the baptisms don't go back as far as 1816, but I'm in hopes there might be members who have Tobins in their tree, who might have come across her name.

Catherine married William Curreen (Curran) in Aglish in 1842. They had three sons, Thomas (1843), Michael (1844), and James (1846) all baptized in Dungarvan. They immigrated to Yonkers, NY in 1847. If they followed the Irish naming pattern, possibly her father's name was Michael. Sound familiar to anyone?

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Hopefully, others with Tobin connections will see your post and comment.

The 1830 Tithe listings for Aglish civil parish show a James Tobin listed on Curradarra.Could this be Catherine's father or do you have a different name?

You mention the 1861 Griffiths listing for Aglish which shows James Tobin in Curradarra. Actually, the Griffiths for Co. Waterford was published in 1850 so the survey was likely taken in 1849 so this record is likely for the same James shown in 1830.

There was also a Michael Tobin family in Curradarra in the 1901 and 1911 censuses.

  • Thank you Roger.

I'm not sure what her parent's names are, but there is a Michael Tobin listed as her witness to the marriage index and their second and third born sons were Michael then James; so I'm thinking maybe her father is Michael or James.

The links you have sent certainly look promising!

When she and her husband immigrated, there was a Patrick Tobin who came with them, and his age at the time would have made him her brother.

Thank you again, and thank you too, for clarifying the date for me, that helps too!!!
