Dear Friends of Clonagam Parish: I have been trying to find my great great Grandfather, Maurice Kane born around 1800 who married Mary Catherine Mullen around 1838. They had a son, Patrick, around 1839 and immigrated to Quebec, Canada in the mid to late 1850s. Maurice was a farmer and they came to Canada during the potatoe famine. They settled in Bristol, Quebec and I recently was excited to find their tombstone at St Brigit's Parish in Bristol. However, the St Brigit's records do not show their birth place only their Country of birth. I have found seven Maurice Kane's in Griffith's Valuation and one is from Clonagam Parish so I am hopeful that this posting will lead me to finding Maurice, Mary Catherine and Patrick's Parish and County of birth.

If anyone recognizes these names or can provide advice on where to search next, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you.

Regards

    Hi Darleen,

Thank you for your message. I hope that someone from Clonagam parish is able to make a connection with you.

In the meantime, have you tried looking into their emigration? Sometimes you can find more information in immigration records-and possibly even a more exact place of origin if you are lucky! For immigration records in Canada check the National Library and Archives at http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/index-e.html

    Another good website is http://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/Canadian-immigration-records.html

Have you tried searching at https://familysearch.org/ ? This is a huge database of genealogical records compiled by the Church of the Latter Day Saints. If you can find a marriage/baptismal cert for some of the family here it will give you a parish name.

Alternatively, you could try writing to Waterford Heritage Services for assistance, however a fee may apply. Here are the contact details:

    St. Patrick?s Church,

    Jenkin?s Lane,

I hope that this is helpful.
