    Welcome to ireland Reaching Out!

The 1911 census records for Cushcam do not show the Donoghue family. In fact, Maurice was not in the general area of Clonea. So did he and his three children all emigrate to the USA?

  • Hello Roger,  Sorry for not writting back faster to you. I found my Great grandfather in the 1911 ceneus. He was living with the Moloney family in Collingan, Ballymacan south. This would fit the time line of his age of 53. I do know that he Married a Alice Comming or Cowming in 1887  I think in the District of Seskinan.  Alice Donohue died in 1894. Maurice was a blacksmith. I would be very thankful of any help you can give.

    Yours.

    Welcome back!

I did find the civil death record for Maurice in 1917. He died in the Dungarvan Workhouse Hospital. You will have to sign-in to see the record. which is the eighth on the page.

Have you considered autosomal DNA testing?

  • Roger, Wow thank you so very much. I have been trying to find him for so very long. Now I dont know anything about Workhouse Hospitals but it does not seen to be very nice. Wow. With regards to autosomal DNA testing I have neve thought about it. And I do and dont know what this is. One questions on buriel of Maurice Donohue. Would they have buried him in a pauper cemetry ?  Thank you again Roger.

  • Roger,  I have a million questions but these two stick out in my mind and sorry for the this extra mail. Was Maurice in some kind of trouble and inprisoned or this is where the poor went when they were sick. The other is when a person died did they ever have records of family, beside my grandmother, that where stil in Ireland at the time. I know  Maurice Donohue father was Patrick Donohu a mason.

    Thank you Ed.

Maurice was likely poor and became ill and went into the Workhouse hospital. He was likely buried in an umarked grave.

They would not have maintained records of other family members in Ireland.
