I'm looking for information on Edmund Whelan, married to I think Maragret Butler. They had 9 children. They would have married around 1828, as their first daughter Ann was born 10 Dec 1829, John 13 May 1832, Stephen 1835, William 1838, Patrick 1841, Mary 1844, Elizabeth 1846, Catherine 22 August 1849, Margaret 1852.

Most of the children migrated to Australia except Catherine married John Power 19 Feb 1879. They lived in Annestown.

The 1850 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Dunhill civil parish showed the following entry for an Edward Whelan. Lissaviron Bog is the townland. No other Whelans listed.

Whelan          Edward              Lissaviron Bog                     Dunhill     Waterford

I found this possible 1901 census record for John and Catherine Power in Dunhill townland near Annestown. Note: one of the sons was named Edmund.

  • Thank you , yes Catherine Power is Edmund Whelans daughter. I did see the census in Annestown for Catherine. I believe the name of Edmund is who I'm searching for, not Edward., As the name Edmund follows down my family tree.

Edmund would have been born around 1805-1808, as the first daughter of Edmund and wife Margaret Butler was born in 1829.
