My name is Edwad Cavanagh from the United States and looking for some help in finding some family who I think lived in this Parish. My Grandmother Mary  Donohue mother and father, Maurice Donohue and Alice Couming, were marred  on 10th July 1886 at  St. Gobinet’s Church Kilgobnet. My Great Great Grandfather Patrick Donohue, a mason, was listed as deceased at this time but John Couming was at the wedding. John Couming was tenant of John Queally a farmer who had over 122 acres in Balleighteragh and after he died his son-in-law Maurice became tenant.  Maurice and his family then left the house to move to a house in Cushcam leaving Mary Coumin as tenant on the house until it was then let to the Tobin family. From there my Grandmother Mary with her father Maurice and her sister Katie and brother John came to the United States and setted in Philadelphia. My Grandmother married a John Cavanaugh, my Grandfather changed it from Kavanagh from County Wexford. They did not know each other until they meet in Philadelphia. From what I was told Maurice moved back to Ireland around 1912 to 1917. The dates I am not sure of but was told he moved. Where he spent his last day I do not know. IF there is anyone that could help me I would be forever thankful. Thank you very much Edward Cavanaugh.

  • Edward, your request was passed on to me.I have quite a bit of stuff on the Donoghue family, but Maurice, I don't have. However I will speak with Paud Donoghue over the weekend and see if he can shed any light on Maurice.I also suspect Alice Couming  could be Cowming, which was a known surname in the area.at any rate, just give me the weekend and I will get back to you.Eddie
