Hello, my ancestor came from this area emigrated to Canada about 1819.His name aws Nicholas Dee and his father

was John Dee.He left a brother Maurice who owned a public house close to the Slievamanon mountain.Their ancestors

would be from co clare and the the story suggest they were asked to secure munster territory in that area so moved from Co clare to co waterford. Also Nicholas had a sister Margaret Ann who may have been a caregiver to a landlord .Also a brother Richard. Their names have continued in our family to this day.

Nicholas had a friend Michael Russell who emigrated at the same time .He was from co Tipperary.Appreciate any information someone may have.

Thanks Barbara Babcock(Dee)

Welcome back! I I know you posted two earlier messages. I went on Roots Ireland to search for possible baptismal records. I did not find a Nicholas Dee baptismal record in Co. Waterford around 1800 which I assume was his approximate year of birth based on the 1819 emigration. There are children of a Maurice Dee in Portlaw RC parish in the 1810s and 1820s. Possibly this is the brother to Nicholas. Below is a transcription of one of the records on Roots. Can I suggest that you get a short-term subscription to Roots and see what records you can locate.

Also, have you considered autosomal DNA testing?

  • Thank-you Roger I believe these are the right family because I also found these names through

Griffiths Evaluation.A cousin of mine said he meant a man who thought he knew where they

actually lived. It was close to area of the River Suir.I would like to meet an ancestor who lives in Ireland today

who is directly linked to that clan.

I will consider joining Roots Ireland,
