My nan b 1901 had to leave Ireland and go to England. She was never to return. My great Nan and Grandad (Stephen Hogan and Mary Hogan) married in 1895 and had 9 children. There was a post on here from June from a Mr Rice looking for info on my Nan and her sister Annie who also came to England. I have replied but with no luck.

I am desperate to find my Irish family and am stuck. Can anyone help.

I am inquiring as to my late grandmothers whereabouts since she moved back to Waterford Ireland back in 1962. She went to live with her sister in Cappaquin, Ireland sisters name is Catherine Hogan. I dont know when she passed or if any family exists from the Hogan family but if there is I would like to know all about them. Her fathers name is Stephen Hogan and wife Mary and had 9 children. Any info from you or relatives would be greatly appreciated. My name is John Rice, grandson to Annie and son to her late departed daughter Joan Marie Cartier Rice. Thank you for your help

Hi John, what was annies married name & where did she marry. When you say she moved back to live with her sister - do you know if her sister was married?  Regards Frances

annie had 2 sisters, Catherine Hogan and and older sibling Mary Bridget Hogan. O dont know if either sister married nor their married names. sorry. The only thing I know is that she went to live with the sister who lived in cappaquin but the sister could have moved to England whereabouts unknown.

Update, My grandmother was born in a family of 9 and her birth year was 1902 not 1899. In 1911 they lived in Ballyvecane, Upper (Lismore, Waterford). Also Annie sailed from Ireland to NYC on November 11, 1934 on the ship President Roosevelt

In reply8 you state Annie arrived in NY in 1934 - Yet you state she is on 1920 census with husband Ferdinand in US & child your mother. What place in US in 1920?

John I feel your original post is misleading as there is a tree online which I am presuming is yours which has Annies death in New York???

If you look on the message I did state New York City, Im assuming manhatten.

That date of death is an estimated date of death which is why I am trying to find out where my grandmother died and in what cemetery. All of this is info is coming from what I can remember as a child, so no Im not trying to mislead anybody or anyone just trying to locate my late grandmother.

Just a bit confusing John what do you have to go on when you said she came back to live in Ireland/England. At this stage I presume her siblings would have died. I see her husband remarried so I wonder did she keep her married name?

Marriage for Stephen Hogan to Mary Hayden April quarter 1895 Reg District Lismore Co Waterford Vol 4 P 329. www.groireland.ie where you can obtain a PHOTOCOPY of marriage cert for 4€

There are several marriage records on Ancestry (Ireland Civil Registrations) for marriages for names James Nicholas Stephen (Hogan) in Lismore- it would be a case of guessing at possible marriage year & photocopies can be ordered from above website.  This may lead you to connect with family. familysearch.org also has the civil records for Ireland and its free if you dont have a sub to ancestry. I know she left Bronx NYC in 1962 and sailed back to ireland, however dont know the name of boat she sailed on or what date and I dont know if she kept her married name or went back to her maiden name. Wish I could be of more help all other family members have passed so its hard for me to get additional info . She did go back to live with her sister Catherine Hogan who lived in Ballyvecane, Upper (Lismore,Waterford) last known address if that helps.

Hi, my Nan was Catherine Hogan who settled in the UK. We were in touch with Annie up to the last few years. I have been desperately trying to find my family in Ireland. My dear Nan was one of 9. Prior to moving to Balleynecane both Stephen and Mary lived in a room in Lismore castle. Nan had 6 children in the UK. If anyone knows the originator of post, please can they pass this on.
