Searching for Michael Feeney, born 1827, in County Galway (no known town or parish) Ireland, migrated to Boston in May 1855, then Portland, Maine. Was naturalized in Maine March 1871. Witnessed and sponsored by Tim Kelly and Pierce Somers

  • Morning from Portumna!

    I looked at the message as it's on the Portumna message board - is there a connection as nothing mentioned?

    Not to worry - I think the best route is to first contact the County Galway genealogy centres and see if they can locate anything as without a parish and for the time period (few records for the early 1800's), it's difficult for volunteers on the ground to research.

    Have you also exhausted the records at the "other side". There is often more information in those records than in Ireland - e.g. Michael Feeney's point of entry in Boston, the ship he travelled on, his naturalisation papers....any one of these might mention a parish or some other useful information.

    If you can pinpoint a parish, then IrelandXO volunteers can start looking for remaining connections.
